Hello dear friends!!! 

The 70's 😍😍😍 good lord, here is my life long inspiration!!! There's something about that decade that just calls to me. Maybe it's the bright colors, maybe it's the idea that love was free flowing, maybe it's the big hair....I don't know! But there's no other decade that pulls me in quite like the late 60's thru the end of the 70's. That's my dad's era, he used to play all the old songs and I was raised on The Beatles. I remember being in college in 2008 pretending it was 1975, painting giant murals with Peter Max inspired colors on huge pieces of cardboard, and wearing every colorful piece of clothing I could find. There were people in and out of my apartment all the time, love was every where, and I spent countless hours lying on my bedroom floor listening to my vinyl collection. 

There is something about the hard times, a bad government, and world terror that brings out the hippie in everyone. I've seen this trend pop up around again recently, and it's one of the only things that brings me solace in such trying times. Bring on the embroidered jeans, the glitter and the macrame!

Lazy Hippie Spring Fashion

Hello friends, 

Hallelujah, here comes Spring!! We had a couple warm days here in Dah 'Burgh and I couldn't be more elated. That means shorts, sandals, tank tops and crop tops! I've been trying of late to kind of just let myself be my true authentic dirty hippie that I've always been without judgement on myself or allowing myself to be swept up in everyone else's opinions. So, I wanted to gather a few images that I've been inspired by, ones that have been swimming around my head. I'm always on Pinterest for inspiration, whether it be for art or fashion, house wares or sewing tips. I'm a little obsessed. 

As we stroll into those warmer months, I look for things with lots of color and a lot of florals.  I love beads and clothing that is flowy and has tons of movement. Of late, I haven't been a fan of stuff that is too tight. I've been gravitating towards comfort and range of motion, rather than those hour glass silhouettes that I was reaching for a year or so ago...maybe it's all those cookies I ate over x-mas. Regardless, comfort is king in my world. I am just about finished with my patchwork dress, only a few more details and that bugger is done! 

You'll see some tie dye done in the ranks. I always love a good tie dye any thing. The more rainbow we got, the better! You'll also see a photo of a girl with dreads, and that's because I am slowly but surely putting dreadlocks back into my hair. I have about 15 dreads in the back of my hair, underneath most of it. 10 of them are about a year old, I put them in shortly after we moved into our place last year. And 5 of them I just installed about a month ago, so they're just babies. I'll be talking more about them once I do more work on them.

Recent Purchases

Hello friends, 

Last week when Bry and I went out shopping in Shadyside, I picked up a few neato things that I'd like to share with you today. We stopped in a few good stores, not pictured here are the amazing stickers I got at Kawaii Gifts. It's one of the cutest little stores with all the pastel colored stationary a girl could ever ask for! The jumpsuit and tights are both from American Apparel, and the Alphonse Mucha poster is from Kards Unlimited. All three stores are on Walnut Street in Shadyside, and all three are all worth checking out if you're ever in the area. 

I have no idea where I'm going to wear this crazy ass jumpsuit, but I'm really excited to have this piece in my wardrobe. Maybe a 70's theme photo shoot? I've already hung up the poster, and Bry doesn't completely hate it hhaa! If it's not a video game or comic related poster, he gives me side eye for it. And, there has already been a dress purchased to match those tights for an outfit post! Now, just to wait for a bit warmer weather.....

A Jean Vest Journey

Hello friends, 

So today I wanted to share with you a little project I've been working on for a while now. A few weeks ago, I picked up a plain jean vest at Target in the clearance section. In all honesty, I was really jealous of Bryan's vest and wanted my own. He's had so much fun of the past few months collecting awesome pins and patches, and I wanted my own. Yes, I'm basically a toddler. Most of my pins were found at Hot Topic, along with the pizza, Nirvana smile, Tool, and Harley Quinn patches. The lipstick pin is from Big Bud Press, and the 4 cloth patches are from Etsy. The large 'vomiting flowers' patch comes from a shop that doesn't exist anymore, and the 3 smaller ones are from Creepy Gals. Definitely check out Creepy Gals, their selection of patches, art and pins is just spectacular!! I've also bought a few other patches from Etsy, but they haven't arrived yet. I'll be sure to share those with you as well once they arrive.  I'm not sure where Bryan purchased all of the studs, but I believe they came from Amazon. If you guys would like to know exactly where he got them, and I'll get that info for you!

Textiles and Threads:: A Bear in the Woods

Hello friends, 

Long time, no outfit post, huh?? Bry and I went out on one of days off recently to run some errands, and ended our day with a little walk on the Braddock Trail at Frick Park. This is one of my favorite parks in the county, the trails are just magical and it's fun to have such a wonderful escape so close to the city! It's been pretty cold here in town this week, and I really have been enjoying the snowy views. The snow makes everything so quiet and that's my favorite part. 

For these outfits, Bry and I  went for a kind of grungy look. We've been reminiscing pretty hard about the 90's lately. A big catalyst is our vests. We've been kind of obsessive in finding cool pins and patches for both of them. He's been working on his for a good bit longer than I have. I just picked up my vest from Target 2 weeks ago or so, he's had his since before Christmas. There's quite a bit of a difference, but I just picked up 3 super awesome patches from Etsy and I'll (hopefully) be sewing those onto my vest some time this week. 

Even though it wasn't all that cold on the day we shot this photos, I still wanted to bundle up a bit. I've noticed over the years that a pair of tights and flowy dress keeps me warmer that a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Bundled up with my favorite green jacket from Delia's (from 2010), this outfit was pretty snuggly. I had the plaid shirt on under my jacket, but it actually got too warm. Bryan is always cold, so he had multiple layers on that day. Boots are always a must when we got for a hike or a walk on the trails, especially since its snowy and a good bit slick. Bry is also wearing the scarf I got him for Christmas this year from Urban Outfitters. 

This was really fun for us. Since the death of my previous computer, we haven't done many photo shoots or photo projects. It's kind of my favorite. He's always so willing to help me out with my silly little projects, and always does it with a big handsome smile! I'm looking forward to more days like these this year, and can't wait to share it all with you guys!!

Threads & Textiles: Doe a Dear

Hello friends, 

Finally, the weather in Pittsburgh has dried up and I got some time to play in the woods. Though, the day that I decided to go to my favorite park there were a few interruptions that made taking these photos kind of hard. I usually sit down by the river bank a little further back in the woods from the actual park. There's a gorgeous view of the river bend and boats like to go past; which makes me smile. But, the day I decided to shoot there were 2 teenage boys that thought it would be fun to follow me into the woods and make me uncomfortable. Instead of being polite and leaving me alone, or just saying hello, they decided to sneak around the woods and watch me from behind trees. It was really weird, and they stayed out there for a good twenty minutes. So instead of making it any stranger than it already was, I just sat down by the river to draw and waited for them to leave. They did after a while. But, it was really weird and uncomfortable. 

Anyways, after the little turds left I was able to run around freely to take my photos. I picked this skirt up at the Old Navy Outlet Store at the Tanger Outlets in Washington on the way back home from our little trip to West Virginia. A lot of those stores up there are still very expensive for being outlet stores, but the Old Navy one has some pretty solid deals. I picked up 2 skirts and 2 V-neck tees for only $24...that's a damn good deal! So, if you ever down that way, I'd suggest stopping. I believe the ring I'm wearing is from Forever XXI but I got it so very long ago that I don't think they'd still have this design in stock. I'm sure there's rings around that are comparable. Geodes, crystals, and natural rocks are so very popular nowadays. 

I enjoyed the little time I got to spend with my favorite little spot. Hopefully, I'll get to go back and hopefully the weather is just as lovely. Do you guys have any favorite spots to sit and relax?
