Friday Favorites // no. 24

Hello friends!!

This week has gone by so quickly for me! It's been a weird week too, I feel like we got to relax but at the same time it's been stressful. It was the official start of summer this week, and for all my wiccans out there I hope your Litha was wonderful and bright!!! I've been dreaming of hikes and feather hunting, lakes and seashells, and warm weather with friends gathered 'round. I'm finally getting my footing at my new job and things are starting to take shape with our little project. Eep! I can't wait to tell you more about that... but for the moment, lips are sealed!

I've been working on a few commissions off and on this week too. I also just finished sealing a few new clay pieces that I'll be listing in my etsy soon. So basically, I've just been trying to keep my hands busy. OH! And, I've also been sewing a good bit this week too! I'm on a mission to build onto my wardrobe with hand made pieces...for several reasons. Over the past few months, I've really been trying to think more about where my clothing comes from, paying attention to on what and how I spend money, and the purpose behind what I am wearing. I don't really like modern fashion any more and I don't agree with a lot of how modern clothing is being made.

In addition to thinking about how and where my clothing is made, I've also be diving deep into the idea of normalized beauty again and what that means to me. My hair has been a big focus for me recently too. I've been struggling with the idea of my dreads in relation to cultural appropriation. Not that I feel like they are culturally insensitive, but what I am, for a lack of a better word, nervous that other people will view it as that....which is why I've been hesitant about fully dreading my hair again. I will eventually dread my whole head, but I have to get out of my own head (lol!) before I do it.

Have you guys ever struggled with anything like that?

But overall, this week has been good. There's been a good bit of self reflection, which is what I always need in times of struggle. I feel like things are heading in a good direction and that life in general has been pretty good lately. I am thankful for the struggle and I am equally thankful for the peace. It's all a balance.

How has your week been?

friday favorites // no. 21

Hello friends!!

PINK PINK PINK!!!!!!!! I've been obsessing over colors lately. I can hear David in the background giggling, "I just really love colors"! Hahah! One of these days I'll let you in on the joke. But in all seriousness, I've been obsessing over colors lately because I've been painting so very much. Don't get me wrong, I am no where near complaining, quite the opposite. Your girl is living the dream! In my paint covered adventures, I've been dreaming of rainbows and scheming up fantastical landscapes in my head. The more I work in my office and sit at my easel, the more I feel like me. I remember the exact moment back in high school that I knew that painting was my thing, and how perfectly heavenly it felt. Pink is really inspiring me lately. There's something about that color that is just pure happiness to me. It opens something up in me, brightens my soul when I see the color pink. So I wanted to dedicate this week's friday favorites to that magical color! Also, there's an awesome patchwork dress thrown in there, because I've been working on my own patchwork dress for about a year now and I'm also done! I can't wait to share it with you guys soon! Only a few more finishing touches and it'll be down. I'm hoping to finish it before my next show, because I would just love to wear it. And, don't forget to check out all the links and goodies down below. I love adding some extras down there, so don't skip it!

Friday Favorites no. 18

Hello friends,

This week is all about reflection, and finding what really matters. I took last week off from blogging to clear my head, recharge my writing brain, and figure out what really matters when it comes to this blog. I've been thinking a lot about the content I post, and how I'd like it to really mean something--not just fluffy curated posts. The longer I blog, and as the years pass by; I find my self gravitating towards more serious blogging. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good 'wishlist' or 'favorites' post just as much as the next girl. And, it's not to say that this friday favorites post is going any where...but the rest of the week's posts will be better written and there'll be more thought put into everything that gets posted from now on. I don't want to blog just to blog anymore....man, how many times can a girl write the word blog before it loses all meaning....anyway...

Let's just say it's going to be a different happinessbrand blog around here in the coming months. I've got several 'heavy' topics that are scheduled for this month. But, I like the heavy stuff...it makes you think, makes you pause. There's a lot going on in the world right now that needs to be talked about. And, I'd like to open up the floor for those conversations.

So, this week's friday's favorites is all about details, and peace. Finding the balance between the two creates a beautiful space that I'm looking to create here on the blog. I aim to bring you guys colorful posts, detail oriented topics, projects, and products. I want to put more work into the things that I bring to you guys this year, whether it is dealing with the shop or the blog. I want to bring you quality pieces that are clearly well made with tons of love and effort, and I want to bring you quality blog content that keeps you coming back and expands your mind.

If there's any topic that you'd like to know more about, or would like to see a conversation started....let me know down it the comments, tweet me, or leave it on our facebook page

Friday Favorites no.17

Hello friends,

All week I've been obsessed with the idea of color. My sketchbook is quickly filling up with crudely drawn psychedelic pin ups that are basically drowning in rainbows. The color pink has kind of taken over my brain this week. My nails are pink, I've used up most of my pink markers, and I've been scouring the internet all week for all the adorable pink shoes with giant bows on them. I'm slowly turning into an anime character. I'm really wishing my hair was longer right now. I want to put my dreads back in, but I don't, but I do....ahhhhh decisions. There will at least be a super rad hair wrap or two going in underneath.

This week has also brought a new subscription to Ipsy, which I will talk more about come Monday and the weekly Monday Update post. That subscription is also lending its hand to my pink obsession. Their theme for February is literally 'pretty in pink'. Like, what?! This week, well my dad kind of surprised me with a hand made loom...and I say 'kind of' because I just asked him for the materials to make it myself. I was going to assemble the whole thing, but instead he go carried away and made it himself. My dad is like that. Always taking care of me in the strangest ways. Thanks dad, love you!

The post this week is reflective of all this. I wanted to bring you a collection of colorful, fun, and happy internet things. Bringing you weird and happy internet shit on a weekly basis! How was your week???
